Analytical Chemistry

Analytical Faculty MembersPurdue University’s analytical chemistry program is widely held to be the top graduate program in the United States. With fourteen faculty members and over 110 graduate and undergraduate students, our program is one of the largest in the world. Research areas include (but are not limited to):

Analytical Chemistry Journal Cover - Professor R. G. CooksPurdue’s analytical chemistry program is especially well known for its development of new instrumentation and measurement strategies for over 60 years. Students and faculty involved with instrument design and development have strong departmental support. The Jonathan Amy Facility for Chemical Instrumentation assists these efforts. Facility personnel have diverse backgrounds from chemistry, through electrical engineering, to systems programming.

Analytical chemistry has been influential in a variety of ways both on and off campus. Faculty and students have been involved in Discovery Park, the Indiana Proteomics Consortium, the Chemobile, Bioanalytical Systems, Griffin Analytical Technologies, and Endocyte.

...more than Purdue analytical chemistry

Our campus has rich traditions in analytical chemistry that spans many schools and departments. These include biomedical engineering, biology, pharmacy, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, foods and nutrition, geology and computer and electrical engineering. There are opportunities for students to interact broadly across campus where doing so can fit their special interests. Purdue has a long tradition of breaking down barriers between disciplines and this has been enhanced even further with the development of the Discovery Park initiative on campus and the Purdue Research Park off campus, but only 5 minutes away.

Progressive Community:

Activities in West LafayetteThe Lafayette-West Lafayette community is not a limited to being a “university town” but rather is a well balanced community of over 100,000 with an excellent complement of museums, arts groups, ethnic restaurants, year round festivals, good schools and easy access to the major cities of Indianapolis and Chicago. We have the plenty of opportunity for spouse employment in our varied commercial sector, including the Purdue Research Park as well as other major employers such as Caterpillar, Subaru Automotive, Eli Lilly and Co., State Farm Insurance, Lafayette Life Insurance and many others.
