Professors Abu-Omar and Weaver named AAAS Fellows

    Mahdi Abu-Omar and Gabriela Weaver have been awarded the distinction of fellow from the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world's largest general scientific society.

    The distinction recognizes their notable work to advance science or its applications, and fellows are elected by peer members. The association will present 702 new fellows with the award on Feb. 16 during the association's annual meeting in Boston.

    Professor Abu-Omar's research focuses on catalysis, renewable energy, and bioinorganic chemistry.

    Professor Weaver's research focuses on the ways in which innovative instructional materials and methods can be used to help students better understand and learn chemistry. She is also Director of the Discovery Learning Resource Center in Discovery Park.
