TRUSE Mini Grants

TRUSE mini-grants will be awarded to teams of researchers for initiatives and projects that encourage interdisciplinary research. These grants are designed to stimulate interdisciplinary research and community building across the disciplines.

Eligibility

Any attendee of the TRUSE conference held June 14-18, 2010 at the University of Maine. This request for proposals is open to faculty, graduate students, and post-docs.

Application Process

The text of the proposal should be up to 6 double-spaced pages in Times or Times New Roman 12 pt font. The proposed work must be completed by June 2012 so that the results can be presented and discussed at the next TRUSE meeting.

The 6-page narrative should describe the proposed activity, plan of work, timeline, and details for how the proposed plan will develop synergies between the disciplines. In terms of quality, relevance and impact, projects should address a recognized need or opportunity and clearly indicate how they will address this need. Where appropriate, provide citations to the literature. In addition, submit current 2-page NSF-style curriculum vitae for all proposal participants, a proposed budget, and a budget justification. A maximum of six mini-grants will be awarded in the amount of $5000 each. Budget items may not include salary or course releases. If the proposal involves collecting data from human subjects, IRB protocols must be followed and tracked. Faculty members who are awarded a TRUSE mini-grant will be required to provide a final report to by June 1, 2012. This report will be submitted to NSF as part of our annual report.

Selection Criteria

• The criteria for evaluating proposals will include
  The interdisciplinary nature of the team
• The opportunities for community building across disciplinary lines
• Significance of the proposed work
• Potential to yield important findings related to student learning
• Potential for the proposed work to result in one or more of the following:
  • New research proposals submitted (especially to the NSF)
  • Presentations at conferences, colleges, or universities that are cross-disciplinary, interdisciplinary, or out of field
  • Jointly authored publications
