Research

Research will focus on and will address the following 4 focus areas and typical research questions:

  • Visual Literacy: How does visual literacy influence the development and assessment of reasoning and understanding in biochemistry and chemistry? How can one measure the effectiveness, and improve the design and use, of models such as diagrams, physical models, computer images and animations?
  • Science Inquiry: What factors limit students’ ability to reason about bio/chemical investigations? How should we be teaching and assessing students’ scientific reasoning ability?
  • Concept Inventories (CI): What core concepts and ways of reasoning should CIs focus on? How can we best identify and remediate students’ conceptual, reasoning and visualization difficulties?
  • Faculty & Curriculum Development: What factors and strategies promote curriculum change and the implementation of educational research findings?
