CHICAGO
AREA NMR DISCUSSION GROUP
2012
MEETING
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2012
Purdue University
West Lafayette, IN 47907
September 18, 2012
Dear NMR Sepctroscopist,
The annual Chicago Area NMR Discussion Group Meeting will be
held on Saturday, November 10, at the Wetherill Chemistry Building Room 104,
Department of Chemistry Purdue University West Lafayette IN 47907. I am
hosting the meeting this year. Details about travel, accommodations, and
local information are shown in the attached document including some
weblinks. This can also be accessed at
http://www.chem.purdue.edu/canmrdg/.
Once again we are grateful to our long term
sponsors Agilent Technologies, Bruker Biospin, Cambridge Isotope
Laboratories, and ISOTEC, for travel support for our speakers and our
breaks. I would also appreciate hearing from any other of our companies who
would be willing to help sponsor our speakers and the meeting costs.
This year, our distinguished keynote speakers: : Dr. Ed Olejniczak
(Vanderbilt University Medical Center) and Dr. Robert Tycko (National
Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases). As each of you
know, it is the contributions from our own members that are key to creating
a first class CANMRDG meeting. Accordingly you are invited to submit a paper
to the program by completing the Speaker Request form for the 2012
meeting. Recommendations for speakers and topics are always appreciated.
Anyone who wishes to speak should complete the registration form on
the web and return it by October 10.
But note first come, first served. For those who prefer it, the
Purdue Chemistry Department FAX number is 765-494-0239.
If you know of NMR spectroscopists in the area who
would appreciate an invitation to the meeting, please send me their name and
address. (including e-mail please!) This "mailing" is ONLY being sent in
electronic form, so anyone without an e-mail contact will need to contact us
for information. Our website is
operational again this year, thanks to my ever faithful secretary Ann Cripe.
We will try to keep it current for you, and notify you when the final
program is posted around October 16.
Please submit the online registration form and lunch reservation at the website at
http://www.chem.purdue.edu/canmrdg/CAregistration.html.
Our lunch will be a buffet style meal with a great
range of selections at the Ford Dining Court - about a 10-15 minute walk
across campus. We anticipate the cost will be around $15. More details will
be announced with the second mailing and posted on the web-site as they
become available. As usual it is important for our caterers to know accurate
numbers. The deadline for lunch reservations will be noon Monday November 5.
In previous years we had many people who reserved lunches and then cancelled
without notice which caused major financial losses.
So again this year, I must insist that a lunch reservation means that
you pay for lunch whether you are there or not.
After 42 years as organizer of the Chicago Area NMR Discussion Group, it is
time to pass the baton to our younger members. I am retiring from Purdue in
December this year. I am delighted to report that a small planning committee
has agreed to take over the organization for the future - Yoshitaka Iishi
(Illinois-Chicago); Chad Rienstra (Illinois Urbana); Nikolai Skrynnikov
(Purdue); Christina Szabo (Baxter). Your input is invited.
I
look forward to seeing you on November 10.
Any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me at
grutzner@purdue.edu or 765-494-5247
(afternoons are best).
Yours resonantly,
John B. Grutzner
Professor of Chemistry
