-
Choose a
model that has an automatic safety switch that turns off the unit
immediately if the heater is tipped over accidentally.
-
Always
look for a label or tag indicating that the heater has been
tested/approved by a recognized independent testing lab. Look for the
UL mark.
-
Check the
plug and cord; if frayed or taped, remove from service until repaired by
a qualified individual. Simply putting tape on a frayed spot is not
enough to prevent overheating and fire.
-
Never
reuse a portable heater on a circuit where a fuse has blown.
-
Avoid
using an extension cord with a portable heater.
-
Keep
portable electric heaters away from sinks, hanging plants and other wet
or damp locations to avoid deadly electric shock. Do not hang items to
dry above the heater.
-
Keep the
heater at least three(3) feet away from curtains, hanging or draped
coats, and away from newspapers or anything that might burn.
-
Never
leave the heater on while it is unattended.
-
Keep all
heaters out of high traffic and exit areas and avoid using it under your
desk and other confined spaces.
Do not run
cord under rug or chair glide pad or
across an aisle way.
-
Read and
follow the manufacturer's safe use instructions.
