Additional Notes on 07/08 Self Audit Checklist:
#2 - 11 can be marked N/A in areas that are not labs AND have no chemicals, no gas cylinders, no hood, no chemical waste. So can quite a few others. When in doubt, ASK.
11. applies to all containers everywhere which have contents that look like or are "chemicals" or chemical mixtures, including sugar, salt, paint, shoe polish..... and all lab chemicals, cleaning agents, etc...
16 and 17 apply in all areas, not just labs.
20. Plenum rated (fire resistant) data wire is used by in JAFCI installations. Most anything that graduate students or other research staff might have stuck up above the dropped ceiling is NOT plenum rated and must come out immediately.
22. Hazard assessments are not at this time necessary to post in work areas where there is NO call EVER for PPE use (aside from ordinary clothes and shoes). For example the library, the Organic Office. Faculty offices, secretary offices, TA offices. Chem Stores offices. (However, the Chem Stores area WTHR 127, 127A, 27 and 27A-F do indeed require posting of Hazard assessment in or near.)
26. How far apart is far enough (for incompatible chemicals)? Separate cabinets for quantities larger than 10 g. Separate shelves in same cabinet for 10 g and smaller containers.
41. Is never "N/A."
