What sort of chemical safety
training is needed everywhere else at Purdue? |

|
Entering graduate students in chemical, biological, biomedical, physics,
veterinary, materials science/engineering, nanotech, pharmacy....
research irrespective of their specific research interests or
intentions should
receive a thorough coverage of all Chemical Hygiene Plan and Hazard
Communication Program concepts and requirements at the time of arrival.
At the time of actual start of work that involves health or safety hazards,
extra training (and documentation of the training) may be necessary.

 EVERYONE
(e.g. grad students, postdocs, regular or
visiting faculty, undergrad researchers (paid or not), technicians, A/P
staff....) who is or will be engaged in laboratory use of chemicals, AND
those who supervise them, must have CHP training.
Requires 5 year refresher
training unless your department requires it more frequently.
PPE training is closely associated.

 For
EVERYONE not engaged in ANY use of chemicals of any sort, nor in proximity
to chemical uses, excepting only "articles"
as defined by the Haz Com standard.
Annual refresher training
required.

 Everyone
who is engaged NON-lab use of chemicals. Carpenters, painters,
electronics.... Haz Com training, and PPE training as appropriate.
Haz Com training requires annual refresher
