obligatory linkRadiological & Environmental Management is a section of Physical Facilities, which is a large subsection of the "business side" of the University (as contrasted with the "academic side").  

REM consists of about 40 professionals, technicians, and secretaries who specialize in the fields of building/fire/machine safety, industrial hygiene, biological safety, public health, health physics, hazmat transportation, and chem/bio/rad waste disposal.

They serve the University by training, advising, and nagging.
