SOPs  1 of 2

The OSHA Laboratory Standard:
(a) Scope and application
(b) Definitions
(c) Permissible exposure limits
(d) Employee exposure determination
(e) Chemical hygiene plan -- General
  (1) Employer will write a CHP...
(2) blah blah blah (it will be accessible)
(3)
The CHP shall include the following stuff...
    (i)  Standard operating procedures relevant to safety and health considerations to be followed when laboratory work involves the use of hazardous chemicals.
(ii)  blah blah blah (criteria that...)
(iii) blah blah blah (a requirement that...)
(iv) blah blah blah (provisions for...)
    (v) blah blah blah (the circumstances under...)
(vi) blah blah blah (provisions for...)
(vii) blah blah blah (designation of ...)
(viii) blah blah blah (provisions for...)
An important and very demanding requirement of the Lab Standard is the SOP requirement.  (SOP = standard operating procedure.)

There are 15 generic classes of hazardous chemicals for which the Purdue CHP provides "special precautions."   These special precautions sections can be counted as YOUR lab's SOPs for the materials they cover.

IFF everything you work with falls into these classes (next panel), then you won't have to customize the CHP by adding extra SOPs for your lab's activities.
