SOPs 2 of 2

The "special precautions" sections in the Purdue Chemical Hygiene Plan address the following:
Flammables and combustibles Compressed Gases Oxidizers
Water-Reactive Materials Pyrophoric Materials Peroxidizables
Light-Sensitive Materials Chemicals of High Chronic Toxicity Cryogens
Shock-Sensitive or Explosive Materials Chemicals of Moderate Chronic or High Acute Toxicity Allergens
Embryotoxins and Reproductive Toxins Animal Work with Chemicals of High Chronic Toxicity Corrosives

If your work involves chemical hazards not covered in these sections you will have to write SOPs and append them to the CHP to make it complete for your lab.  Always, you have to be able to answer the OSHA enforcement agent who asks you "WHERE ARE YOUR SOPs?!" with, "SIR, in our Chemical Hygiene Plan, SIR."   Or "MA'AM," of course.

To see the Special Precautions Sections of the CHP go to the REM CHP links and see the template and they begin at the page which is printed as p. 23, title of section in the Table of Contents is "Model Written SOPs: Special Precautions."  It should look like this:
