The "special
precautions" sections in the Purdue Chemical Hygiene Plan address the following:
| Flammables and combustibles |
Compressed Gases |
Oxidizers |
| Water-Reactive Materials |
Pyrophoric Materials |
Peroxidizables |
| Light-Sensitive Materials |
Chemicals of High Chronic Toxicity |
Cryogens |
| Shock-Sensitive or Explosive Materials |
Chemicals of Moderate Chronic or High Acute Toxicity |
Allergens |
| Embryotoxins and Reproductive Toxins |
Animal Work with Chemicals of High Chronic Toxicity |
Corrosives |
If your work involves chemical hazards not covered in these sections you will have to
write SOPs and append them to the CHP to make it complete for your lab. Always, you
have to be able to answer the OSHA enforcement agent who asks you "WHERE ARE YOUR
SOPs?!" with, "SIR, in our Chemical Hygiene Plan, SIR."
Or "MA'AM," of course. |
