OSHA regulates occupational safety (preceeding 14+ slides).
But
chemical waste
is regulated by the EPA
(US EPA, Environmental Protection Agency)
The top rules:
|
| |
1. Keep the waste
containers closed
2. Label and date the waste containers properly from the start.
3. Don't accumulate/store too much waste at one time.
4. Obey all rules for chemical segregation and flammable liquids
storage.
(Waste and non-waste follow those rules the same way.) |

The EPA levies much larger fine$, in general, than does OSHA.
The EPA has lately fined universities
$40,000 - $1,000,000 for "simple" infractions such as open waste,
inadequately labeled waste....
