  OSHA regulates occupational safety (preceeding 14+ slides).  

But chemical waste is regulated by the EPA
(US
EPA, Environmental Protection Agency)

The top rules:

 

1. Keep the waste containers closed
2. Label and date the waste containers properly from the start.
3. Don't accumulate/store too much waste at one time.
4. Obey all rules for chemical segregation and flammable liquids
    storage.  (Waste and non-waste follow those rules the same way.)

 

 

The EPA levies much larger fine$, in general, than does OSHA.

The EPA has lately fined universities $40,000 - $1,000,000 for "simple" infractions such as open waste, inadequately labeled waste....
