9/6/05 Anne Bentley CHM PD Weaver/Choi My primary research will be to culture cells of a bacteria (biosafety level I), place the bacteria on an electrode, and study its response to electrochemical stimuli. The bacteria will be grown in a buffered aqueous medium containing a large number of inorganic salts. The electrochemical setup will include a solution of methyl viologen with inert gas bubbling through. (The bacteria do not survive in oxygen atmosphere, so they will most likely be grown and stored in an anaerobic chamber.) I anticipate that all solutions will be aqueous ,but I may use other solvents in cleaning or side experiments. dichloromethane, chloroform , acetone, ethanol, chromium, CO2, H2, N2, methyl viologen
