Richard McMillen | MSE | GS | Trimble | Polishing aluminum with acids, hydrochloric and sulfuric acids. |
| 9/6/05 | Anne Bentley | CHM | PD | Weaver/Choi | My primary research will be to culture cells of a bacteria (biosafety level I), place the bacteria on an electrode, and study its response to electrochemical stimuli. The bacteria will be grown in a buffered aqueous medium containing a large number of inorganic salts. The electrochemical setup will include a solution of methyl viologen with inert gas bubbling through. (The bacteria do not survive in oxygen atmosphere, so they will most likely be grown and stored in an anaerobic chamber.) I anticipate that all solutions will be aqueous ,but I may use other solvents in cleaning or side experiments. dichloromethane, chloroform , acetone, ethanol, chromium, CO2, H2, N2, methyl viologen |

Most of my work will be done in the fume hood. Some of the equipments I will use are rotary evaporation systems, refluxing aparatus, NMR, IR, MS and some others. |
| 9/6/05 | Weizhong Ch | CHM | PD | Ren | dichloromethane, nitrogen, dichloromethane, chloroform, hexane, methanol, ethanol, ether,THF, benzene, My research focus on synthetic organometallic chemistry. I prepare compounds containing diruthenium cores and funtionalized organic ligands. For equipment, I use refluxing system in fume hood, rotavapor, and vacuum manifold; for chemicals, I use organic solvents such as THF, Hexanes, and chemicals ordered from Acros and other vendors |
| 9/6/05 | Michael Dequeant | CHM | GRA | Ren | dichloromethane benzene acetic acid nitrogen dichloromethane, chloroform hexane, methanol, ethanol, ether benzene, acetic acid I make N,N'-bridging bidentate ligands from various amine compounds that I attach to dirhenium compounds under a nitrogen atmosphere at elevated temperatures. I work mainly in a fume hood using dried solvents on a vacuum manifold. I also use other equipment such as rotary evaporation systems, distillation and refluxing aparatus, and various analytical techniques such as NMR, FTIR, and mass spectroscopy in identifying my products. |
