I begin by cleaning the tips that will be used to study a chemical surface using Atomic Force Microscopy(AFM). To clean the tips they are sonicated in pure water then methanol then ethanol. They are then put in a solution of 3:1 H2SO4 and H2O2 overnight. They are then cleaned using pure water and then dried with N2(g). The next step is the functionalisation of the tips using 3-Aminopropyltriethoxysilane. After heating at 120 degrees celcius for 20 minutes then cooled, a solution of 3.5mg succininidyl 4 [p-maleinidophenyl] butyrate added to 10ml of 1:4 DMSO and Ethanol, is put over the tips in a petree dish. The tips are left overnight and are then cleaned with ethanol and dried with N2(g). The tips are then ready to be used for AFM.

My work is about synthesis iron nanoparticles and iron complexes, I need to use some solvent(toluene, ethanol) with surfactant(by synthesis or commercial products) and of course the iron source, iron pentacarbonyl. I always do my work in the hood, I also wear the gloves and labcoat. The equipments I need to use are some glassware(condenser, round bottom flasks, syringes, needles, test tubes...etc), magnets(to test the magnetics). The other work is about transmission electron microscopy(TEM), it's in life science department, check my samples with TEM then calculate it with computer. That's all.
