Chemistry plays an integral role in today's scientific endeavors. As science has become increasingly interdisciplinary, fundamental scientific problems focus on the chemical nature of matter.
The faculty and staff of the Department of Chemistry provide an environment where students at all levels can explore, discover, and learn chemistry through coursework and research.
Amy Instrumentation Facility Director Named
Dr. R. Michael Everly has been named the new Director of Instrumentation for the Jonathan Amy Instrumentation Facility. Mike completed his B.S. degree at the University of North Florida, and received his Ph.D. in 1991, working under the direction of Professor Dave McMillin. After completing a post doctoral study in Biological Sciences at Purdue and a visiting faculty appointment at the University of North Florida, he returned to the department in 1996 as a member of the JAFCI staff (Instrumentation Scientist). Mike replaces Dr. Robert Santini.
Dr. Santini has been named Senior Instrumentation Specialist and has assumed a 1/2 time position in the Amy Facility. Bob served as the Amy Facility Director since 1989. Under his leadership the facility has grown to 15 staff. Bob will continue to provide his expertise on a variety of projects through the period of his ½ time appointment.

Analytical Chemistry Programs Ranked Among the Best
"We're quite pleased that our stellar program in analytical chemistry is again ranked No. 2," said Jeffrey S. Vitter, former Dean of the College of Science. "We also made very positive gains in computer science, rising two points, and we expect even more gains when our new Lawson Computer Science Building, with its state-of-the-art facilities, opens this year. Overall, six programs in science earned national rankings, which confirms Purdue a true leader in the direction of science programs."
