Distance Learning General Chemistry

back
Description

In 1996, the Chemistry Department at CU-Denver developed a distance-learning version of our General Chemistry course. The design and development of the course were carried out by Dr. Doris R. Kimbrough. The course is taught on video, but students still come to campus every other Saturday to take exams and to have class meetings. During the 1998/99 school year, I taught this course in the distance format for the first time. I have explored the uses of IRC for on-line office hours and have considered the issues arising from teaching a distance course developed by another person. This transferability issue has implications for distance-format courses in general.
