The Food Zone is an instructional Web site intended for use in grades 6-9 that covers the topics of nutrition and digestion. Some basic biology and chemistry concepts are also included. The site also includes experiments, having to do with various nutrients, which are written to include an inquiry component. In order to be appealing to a younger audience, the site makes use of cartoon graphics and bitmaps. All of the programming and art for the site was done by freshman chemistry students at CU-Denver. The site was tested at two schools in the metro Denver area, and is used constantly by teachers throughout the nation.
