LIAD/Thermochemistry
Reactions of radicals with peptides and proteins result in hydrogen abstraction from the a-carbon or side chain of an amino acid residue. Knowledge of the side chain homolytic bond dissociation energies (BDE) will provide insight into the most likely sites of oxidative attack in proteins.

LIAD is used to desorb neutral amino acid into the gas phase for subsequent FTICR/Bracketing experiments to acquire thermochemical information such as gas phase acidity, electron affinity to deduce the homolytic Bond dissociation Energy using a negative ion thermochemical cycle.
