Organic Synthesis

Organic synthesis is one of our most important research areas. The synthesized compounds are utilized in almost all of our research projects.

In our current investigations, we are mainly focused on:

  • Synthesis of radicals’ precursors – chemistry of halogenated and nitrated derivatives of heterocyclic compounds, such as pyridine, quinoline, isoquinoline and acridine. Below are some of the radicals formed from precursors that have been synthesized:

  • Design and synthesis of new reagents for derivatization reactions in FT-ICR and Triple Quadrupole mass spectrometers – the current focus is on boron reagents including the ones shown below:

  • Solution derivatization reactions – transformations of functional groups aimed at simplifying the mass spectrometric dentification of analytes containing those groups.

  • Synthesis of isotopically labeled compounds – often used in our lab to study mechanisms and selectivity of reactions observed in mass spectrometers and structures of the products formed in these reactions.
