Jon is working on the detection of target sequences of DNA in solution phase by attaching a fluorescent label to the sample target strands and another fluorescent label to the probe strands. Both non-competitive and competitive hybridization experiments are being studied by monitoring either the loss of fluorescence of one probe or the increase of fluorescence of the other probe due to energy transfer.
