Homogeneous Nucleants

A diverse family of rigid, soluble nucleating ligands bearing pre-organized nitrilotriacetic acid ligands have been developed to capture histidine-tagged proteins at fixed, well-defined distances to promote their crystallization.

Interfacial Nucleants

Chelating lipids have been created to promote the capture and nucleation of soluble his-tag proteins at gas-liquid and liquid-solid interfaces.

Single Particle Reconstruction

Lipid monolayers, polyrotaxanes and brush polymers have also been synthesized to promote protein capture onto these substrates via engineered affinity interactions between the protein and synthetic material. High-resolution cryogenic electron microscopy analysis of these conjugates is then undertaken to reveal their structure at medium resolution.
