Marine fouling of structures has long been a problem in the nautical community. Various coatings, such as biocide-based coatings, which leach toxic compounds into the water, have been used to help prevent adhesion of biofouling organisms. Such coatings have been successful; however, with the IMO prohibiting the use of tributyltin (TBT) as an antifouling (AF) substance, new alternatives need to be created. Thus, my research focuses on creating AF coatings that can be used to protect marine structures from fouling. |
