Born and bred in the sunny island of Singapore, Wilson received his B.S. in Chemistry and Biological Chemistry in 2017 from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), where he carried out undergraduate research on the usage of fluorescent probes for the sensing of drug-resistant pathogenic bacteria with Professor Xing Bengang. Subsequently, he worked as a research assistant working on the synthesis, screening and evaluation of chimeric antisense oligonucleotides as nucleic acid therapeutics under the guidance of Professor Phan Anh Tuan in NTU. In 2019, Wilson moved to Purdue University, where he is a PhD student under the supervision of Professor Herman Sintim. In the Sintim research group, his research work focuses on the development of novel antibacterial and antivirulent compounds for the targeting of pathogenic bacterial infections. Wilson’s personal research interests includes the design and development of therapeutic small molecules, biopolymers and peptidomimetics towards the targeting of multi-drug resistant pathogenic bacteria, and applications of labelling and fluorescence imaging strategies towards understanding antimicrobial resistance and bacterial virulence mechanisms.
