Alison Narayan

Dr. Alison Narayan graduated from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 2006. She went on to the University of California, Berkeley where she received her Ph.D. in organic chemistry under the supervision of Richmond Sarpong. After a brief postdoctoral appointment with David Sherman, Narayan is now an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Michigan. Her research interests lie in the use of novel enzymes from secondary metabolism for synthesis of complex bioactive molecules. Specifically, in the cases of oxidative dearomatization and several examples of C-H and C-C bond functionalization, her work in chemoenzymatic approaches for the synthesis of natural products and their derivatives elegantly describes our pursuit to bring attention to this interplay between the natural and nonnatural world.
