Analyze This Analytical Chemistry Applied to Interdisciplinary Research

Julia Laskin

Dr. Julia Laskin

Julia Laskin, William F. and Patty J. Miller Professor of Analytical Chemistry, and her research group focus on the development of new experimental approaches for studying collisions of complex ions with surfaces and imaging of bioliogical samples using mass spectrometry. In particular, we are developing approaches for ambient multimodal imaging of numerous metabolic pathways in living cells and tissues with subcellular resolution and exceptional molecular sensitivity and selectivity. These tools are applied to imaging tissue sections, living microbial communities, and individual cells.

A REU student will be involved in the structural characterization of biomolecules observed in imaging experiments using a combination of ion mobility spectrometry and tandem mass spectrometry. The student will be mentored by Hilary Brown, a fourth year graduate student in the group.
