Rishi Patel

Originally from Wayne, IL, Rishi completed his undergraduate studies at Saint Louis University studying chemistry and mathematics. During his time there, he investigated the enzyme kinetics of myoglobin mediated reduction of hydrogen peroxide and its implications on the greater redox biology. Here, he developed a fascination in enzymology, bioinorganic and bioorganic chemistry. This led him to join Chittaranjan Das’ Lab in Department of Chemistry at Purdue University where he explores the uses of unnatural amino acid mutagenesis to reveal biological phenomena. Inspired by this exposure, his interests lie in the study of enzymes, their mechanism, and their ability to catalyze some of the most intriguing chemical transformations seen in the natural and non-natural worlds. He aims to become a post-doctoral student and hopes to be an independent researcher one day. Outside of lab, Rishi enjoys playing board games with his friends, watching anime, and reading.
