Philip L. Fuchs

Research

Research in the Fuchs group is characterized by a very adventuresome style; typically undertaking strategies that attempt a series of transformations in a single reaction flask. Previous research in the Fuchs group has involved efficient synthesis and testing of biologically active materials using a multiply-convergent strategy involving conjugate-addition/in situ functionalization reactions of vinyl sulfones. While still being involved in the total synthesis of the natural products, our future goals are shifting to the rational design, synthesis, and testing of unnatural products. The research applies the tools of synthetic strategy, biochemistry, and computer modeling in order to address key biological issues.
