Undergraduate Research Students
Tommy Zhang |
I'm a sophomore pursuing a BS in biochemistry. I will graduate in 2021. After graduation, I plan to work in drug design in the pharmaceutical industry. Also, I like to play video games, listen to rap, and the rain.
Chelsea Lee | I’m a senior from Commack, New York, pursuing a BS in Biochemistry and a minor in Biology. I plan to graduate in the spring of 2019. I’m currently employing computer assisted drug design methods to find new breast cancer drugs using the program MOE. I use docking scores of different compounds to explore which structural modifications cause the highest affinity scores. After graduating, I plan on working in industry. Other than academics and research, I enjoy creating art using different media. Some of them including ceramics, painting, and sculptures.
Jia Cheoh | Jia is passionate about computational science, supercomputers, and airplanes. She represented Purdue in a supercomputing competition held in Dallas in 2018 and she will be representing Purdue again to compete in Germany and Denver next year. She has a passionate love for aviation and has flown as a junior pilot for Singapore Airlines. She also has a real passion in computational science related research and has presented her undergraduate research work in IEEE held at MIT, Hong Kong, Orlando, and the University of Chicago. She is currently enjoying tinkering with molecular dynamics and the MOE software in Professor Paula's lab. |

Former Undergraduate Research Students
Grace Higginbottom |
Grace is a senior pursuing a BS in biology with a minor in chemistry. Her research involves the study of inhibitors of the enzyme SERCA using bioassays and molecular modelling. She is also involved in animal behavior research with Dr. X. Bernal and biology education research with Dr. N. Pelaez. She will graduate in December 2016. She loves her dog, nature, and riding her bike.
Austin Campbell |
Austin is a junior pursuing a BS in biology with a minor in chemistry and entrepreneurship. His research involves xanthine oxidase inhibition and radical scavenging properties of novel organic compounds. He is planning on graduating in 2016 and continuing his education in graduate school for agricultural engineering.
Valente Villegas |
Valente is a senior from Indianapolis, Indiana, pursuing a BS in Chemistry. In his free time, Valente loves to do Olympic weightlifting, hang out with friends, watch anime, and travel around the world. His research involves xanthine oxidase inhibition. After graduating in May 2017, Valente plans to work in the chemical industry.
Wyatt Baysinger |
Wyatt is a junior from Brazil, Indiana, pursuing a BS in Biochemistry. Outside of classes, Wyatt enjoys spending time with his wife Brittany, marathoning Netflix series, and being an undergraduate student mentor in the Biochemistry Club. His research involves the testing of several computer-predicted small molecule inhibitors of the Cdc14 phosphatase to determine their efficacy. After graduating in 2018, Wyatt plans to pursue a career in the agriculture sector.
Sarah Tyler | Sarah is a junior from Kaneohe, Hawaii, pursuing a BS in Chemistry and a minor in Spanish. In addition, she is a student athlete on the Cross Country and Track and Field teams. In her free time, Sarah reading, going to the beach, and hiking. Her research project invovles the use of computational methods to predict the binding properties of small molecule inhibitors to the phosphatase Cdc14. After graduating in 2017, Sarah plans to go the graduate school.
Wonbeen Choi |
Wonbeen is from Korea and he is a sophomore pursuing a BS in biochemistry. Besides his studies, he loves to watch movies and play games. He is planning to attend graduate school in toxicology programs after graduation.
