Click on the area of interest to obtain more information about how each of the issues will be handled in CHM 123. This information is also described in the course packet that you will receive in the first lecture. Go to the General Chemistry Office (BRWN 1144) to get your copy if you were not present during the first lecture on Monday, August 22.
Required Materials and Supplies Textbook Chemistry: The Molecular Science, Second Edition, Moore, Stanitski and Jurs, Brooks-Cole, 2005. Lab Manual and Notebook Chemistry 123 Laboratory Manual, Purdue University, Fall 2005 Edition, Hayden-McNeil Publishing, Inc. [The required laboratory notebook will be packaged with the lab manual.] Approved safety goggles (NOT glasses) are available at the bookstores. During the semester students can purchase goggles at the Chemistry Storeroom in the BRWN building on 1st or 2nd floors. During the first two weeks of classes safety goggles will be sold outside WTHR 200. A scientific calculator will be necessary. If you use an alphanumeric calculator you will be required to clear the memory for exams and quizzes. Probably the best calculator to use for exams and quizzes is a simple, battery operated, scientific calculator. A padlock for your assigned lab drawer (beginning Week #4 of the semester)
September 2: Last day to cancel (drop) a course without it appearing on your transcript. September 19: Last day to cancel a course with a grade of "W". October 26: Last day to cancel a course with a passing or failing grade recorded for students classified as semester 3 and above.
If you drop CHM 123 after having checked into a locker drawer, it is your responsibility to check-out of your lab locker immediately. Go to the General Chemistry Office (BRWN 1144) to begin this process. Wearing goggles and proper lab attire are required for the check-out process. If you do not check out immediately, then you must check out of lab during week #16 during what would have been your regularly scheduled lab time. You must arrive at lab at the beginning of the lab time: 7:30 AM, 11:30 AM, or 2:50 PM, whichever corresponds to the lab you were originally scheduled. Wearing goggles and proper lab attire are required for the check-out process.
Because of the high enrollment and the processes associated with assigned permanent lab drawers and WebCT course enrollment, we will not be able to change sections for anyone after week #2. If you change sections after you check into a locker drawer during the first three weeks of the semester, you must check out of your old locker drawer before checking into a drawer in your new section. Go to the General Chemistry Office (BRWN 1144) to take care of the paperwork.
Failure to Check-out of Lab / Arriving Late to Check-out For anyone who has not checked out of his/her lab drawer by the time the TA has closed the lab after having finished checking lab drawers for the students who were present at the regularly scheduled lab during week #16
