Isomer Resolved Imaging via online derivatization of C=C bonds
Online derivatization of C=C bonds enables the imaging of positional lipid isomers that would be otherwise plotted as a mixture using conventional MSI. Our method uses singlet oxygen which selectively reacts with C=C in lipids to form lipid hydroperoxides. The hydroperoxides products yield diagnostic fragments that reveal the position of the C=C in the original lipid. This method is inexpensive and fast. Moreover, it will provide insights in the role of positional isomers in the origin and progression of various diseases.
