H.C. Brown Centennial Celebration
The Department of Chemistry is celebrating the life of Professor Herbert C. Brown in June 2012 - the centennial year of his birth. Brown was awarded the 1979 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Register for the following dates on the West Lafayette campus: 13th Boron Americas Meeting · June 3-6, 2012

(Announcement & Call for Papers Poster .PDF) About Boron AmericasThe Boron Americas (erstwhile Boron USA) is an international, interdisciplinary forum held to discuss new developments in all aspects of boron chemistry. In keeping with the tradition of Boron Americas, all of the oral presentations will receive equal time. This conference will offer oral and posters presentations in a variety of applications including the chemistry of biologically active compounds, synthetic organic, inorganic, industrial chemistry and the chemistry of alternate energy materials. All abstracts must be submitted online using the template provided by April 16, 2012. Details related to abstract submissions local arrangements can be found on the conference web site. (Abstract Template.doc) Boron Americas Registration FeeThe early registration fee (before May 4th) for participants is 300 USD per person. Students and Post-doctoral associates will be registered at a reduced fee of 150 USD per person. After May 4th, the registration fee will be 350 USD per person and 175 USD for students. Accompanying person’s registration fee is 150 USD. The registration includes the welcome reception, conference banquet, transportation to and from Monticello, cruise on Lake Freeman, cruise dinner, conference materials, and breakfast and lunch on all conference days. Brown Birth Centennial Celebration(Announcement & Call for Papers Poster .PDF) The Department of Chemistry, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana invites you to join us on June 7-8, 2012 to celebrate the birth centennial of one of the legends in chemistry, Professor Herbert C. Brown. The birth centennial will be preceded by the thirteenth biennial Boron Americas Conference, which will be held June 3-6, 2012 and followed by 29th Herbert C. Brown Lectures on June 9th 2012 in West Lafayette, Indiana. Friends and colleagues of Prof. H. C. Brown will convene to celebrate his life and contributions. HCB's former associates from around the world will talk on their most recent scientific contributions. RegistrationRegistration is required for participation in the birth centennial celebrations. The registration includes the conference materials, breakfast and lunch on conference days and the Brown Centennial/Brown Lectures banquet on June 8th 2012. 29th Herbert C. Brown Lectures in Organic ChemistryThe Twenty-nineth Brown Lectures will be held June 9, 2012 at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana in conjunction with the birth centennial of Professor Herbert C. Brown. This year's lectures will be preceded by the 13th Boron Americas Conference on June 3-6, 2012, which will feature the versatility of the element dear to Professor HCB (Boron) in all areas of chemistry, including theoretical, biological, organic, inorganic, advanced materials, and medicinal chemistry. This will be followed by a conference of HCB's former associates from around the world discussing their most recent scientific contributions. Indianapolis International Airport (70 miles) is the nearest airport. Chicago O'Hare International Airport (140 miles) is recommended for international participants. Lafayette Limo and Star of America operate limo services between Indy and Purdue. Express Air Coach operates shuttle buses between O'Hare and Purdue. Participants will need to arrange transportation between the airport and West Lafayette. A limited number of travel fellowships will be available for students and postdocs.
