I developed a close friendship with a group of peers in the major over my four years at Purdue. The group grew closer over the years as the course work became more difficult and we concurrently wondered what the future would look like as graduating chemists. We all relied on each other for help with course work but also commiserated about the struggle of young adults trying to find their place in society outside of West Lafayette.
Junior year, we all took physical chemistry 1 and 2 (thermodynamics and quantum mechanics) with Dor Ben-Amotz and I was immediately convinced of the professional path I wanted to take post-graduation. Dor instilled a passion in me for physical chemistry with his engaging teaching style that left an indelible mark. His teaching style and approach resonated with me such that I began undergrad research in rotational spectroscopy with Brian Dian. This work prompted a love for analytical chemistry which "spring-boarded" my career post Purdue in mass spectrometry.
