Chemistry undergrad earns 2021 Astronaut Scholarship

Chemistry undergraduate John Putziger has been named a 2021 Astronaut Scholar.

The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) has awarded 60 scholarships to students from 44 different universities across the nation.

Putziger, a senior from Falls Church, Virginia, is a member of Jianguo Mei’s Research Group.

Astronaut Scholarships are awarded to students in their junior and senior year of college studying science, technology, engineering, or mathematics with the intent to pursue research or advance their field upon completion of their final degree

After Purdue, Putziger intends to pursue a PhD in Chemistry with a focus on organic synthesis and catalysis, followed by a career as a government research scientist.

Astronaut Scholars are among the best and brightest minds in STEM who show initiative, creativity, and excellence in their chosen field.
