Frequently Asked Questions - Arrange Visit

Arranging a Visit to Purdue

Prospective graduate student are welcome to spend time on the Purdue campus to meet our faculty, students, and staff.  We will assist you in planning a visit where we can.  We encourage all admitted students to attend our special spring symposium.  This is an exciting open house event where participants will meet other students along with the Purdue faculty. Alternative visitation dates are February 21, March 13, March 23 and April 3.

Please allow us at least two weeks notice to work on your arrangements. We prefer to schedule all visitations on Fridays. Please call us at:1-765-494-5200 or e-mail the admissions office so they can get the appropriate information from you to arrange your visit.

We suggest that you contact a travel agent or check the Web for flights to Indianapolis, Indiana (IND).  The Indianapolis International Airport is about 75 miles south of Purdue University. Purdue is serviced by Lafayette Limo Service which runs a shuttle service to and from the Indianapolis Airport about every two hours starting at 4:30 a.m. from the Purdue Memorial Union with the last service leaving Indianapolis at 10:30 p.m. See the above link for a schedule.

If you plan to drive, please check the following web site for driving instructions: Maps and Travel Information.

All of your local expenses including hotel accommodations, food, and any parking fees will be covered by us.  We usually provide lodging on campus in the Purdue Union Club Hotel located very close to the Chemistry Department.  A student host will assist you in navigating around campus.

We will do our best to assist in payment of your trip to Purdue.  We will provide local housing and meals while on campus. Please call our admissions office with your travel plans and we will discuss with you a schedule for your trip.  We will share expenses with other universities in the Midwest that you may visit.  Please let us know what our share of the expenses are and provide as many original receipts as you can.

We cannot provide travel reimbursement to parents, spouses or children.  We will make arrangements for shared rooms but we can only pay for your portion of the expenses.

Your day visit will include visits with individual faculty and their research groups (please specify those in whom you have a particular interest when making arrangements for your visit), a facility tour, and opportunities to meet with current graduate students. Local expenses (meals and lodging) will be provided.
