Frequently Asked Questions - Symposiums

The Symposium on Graduate Research provides a great introduction to our research and academic programs. We encourage all admitted students to attend this event. We will provide assistance in travel and pay local expenses for rooms and meals.

**Friday, March 6**
Time	Activities
3:45 PM	Bus reports to Holiday Inn to take students to campus. Meet in lobby. Bus will leave at 4:00pm.
4:00 PM	Informal gathering and Coffee, Packet distribution Leighty Commons, WTHR 2nd floor
4:30 PM	Welcome and weekend overview; Prof. Chris Hrycyna, Department Head, and Stephen Hoffmann, Assistant Department Head. WTHR 104
5:00 PM	Pizza Dinner, WTHR 104
5:30 PM	The Purdue Environment with Prof. Jon Wilker, WTHR 104
6:30 PM	Break
7:00 PM	Faculty Research Poster Session in Stewart Center Posters in STEW 202 and STEW 214, refreshments in STEW 202 Turn in faculty discussion request forms by 8:30 pm, please.
8:30 and 9:10 PM	Bus Leaves from Oval Drive to return to hotel.
9:00 PM and after	Informal Social Activities (Optional) Organized by GSAB, walking distance from hotel

**Saturday, March 7**

9:00 AM	The Purdue Chemistry Graduate Program, Prof. Hrycyna, WTHR 104 Individual appointment schedules for discussions with faculty will be distributed.
9:45 AM	Break
10:00 AM – 10:30 AM	Discussion with Faculty #1, Various Faculty Offices
10:40 AM – 11:10 AM	Discussion with Faculty #2, Various Faculty Offices
11:20 AM – 12:00 PM	Optional Building and Campus Tours, Meet in WTHR 104
12:30 PM – 1:30 PM	Lunch, East/West Faculty Lounge, 2nd floor, Purdue Memorial Union
1:40 – 2:10 PM	Discussion with Faculty #3, Various Faculty Offices
2:20 – 2:50 PM	Discussion with Faculty #4, Various Faculty Offices
3:00 PM – 4:15 PM	Optional Building, Campus, and Housing Tours, Meet in WTHR 172
4:30 PM	Graduate Student Questions & Answer Session, WTHR 172, Hosted by GSAB (the Graduate Student Advisory Board)
5:20 and 5:50 PM	Bus leaves from Oval Drive to return to hotel
6:00 PM and after	Dinner at Lafayette Brewing Co., 622 Main Street, Lafayette See walking map from hotel.

All of these activities are optional; students may choose which they would like to attend. In addition to these activities, some divisions and other groups are offering lunch to early arrivers (you may have received an invitation).

**Friday Afternoon (March 6) Early Events**

1:00 PM	Building Tour, with visits to main shared instrumentation facilities. Meet outside BRWN 2100.
1:00 PM	Campus Walking Tour, including visit to Chemistry buildings in Discovery Park, Meet outside BRWN 2100.
2:00 PM	Coffee with Chemists -- a regular informal event sponsored by the Professional Development Committee of GSAB; students talk informally to a PhD chemist about their career pathway and their daily life in their current career (e.g., industrial chemist, academic chemist, national lab scientist, lawyer, consultant, pharmaceutical specialist, regulatory affairs specialist, and more), WTHR 360
3:00 PM	Building Tour, with visits to main shared instrumentation facilities. Meet outside BRWN 2100.
3:00 PM	Campus Walking Tour, including visit to Chemistry buildings in Discovery Park, Meet outside BRWN 2100.
4:00 PM	Gathering and Coffee, Packet distribution Leighty Commons, WTHR 2nd floor

To assist students with transportation from the Holiday Inn Downtown to campus, a van will be leaving the hotel at 11:40, 12:40, 1:40, 2:40, and 3:40.
