Carcinogens
Two agencies are regarded as authoritative by OSHA on the classification of carcinogens. These are
- IARC: The International Agency for Research on Cancer report - Referred as CIRC (Centre International deRecherchesurle Cancer) in much of the world as well as its Lyon headquarters, the mission of this section of the World Health Organizationis to coordinate and conduct research on the causes of human cancer, the mechanisms of carcinogenesis, and to develop scientific strategies for cancer control.
monographs.iarc.fr/ENG/Classification/index.php - NTP: The National Toxicology Program report - A cooperative effort involving the NIH's National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, the CDC's National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and the FDA's National Center for Toxicological Research. Since 1978the NTP has been designing, conducting, and interpreting animal assays for toxicity and carcinogenicity. It is headquartered inResearch Triangle Park,NC.
